The Royal Palace (Kungliga slottet) in Gamla Stan is the King's official residence. One ticket covers the Royal Apartments, including the Hall of State and the Apartments of the Orders of Chivalry, the Treasury with the regalia, and the Tre Kronor Museum about the medieval castle. An adult ticket costs €21 from May to September and €19 the rest of the year; ages 7 to 17 pay half.

The palace closes fully or partly for state visits and official receptions. In October 2026, for example, parts were closed from 12 to 21 October and the whole palace on 19 October. Check the official calendar for your date; a guided tour bought on Headout can be cancelled if your day is affected.
The changing of the guard takes place in the palace's outer courtyard at 12:15 on weekdays and Saturdays and 13:15 on Sundays and public holidays, and lasts about 40 minutes. In the summer half-year the guard parade marches or rides through the city with a music band. On some days only a smaller ceremony takes place, and times can change. It is free to watch.
Drottningholm, on an island in Lake Mälaren west of the city, is the royal family's private home and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Part of the palace, the gardens and the Court Theatre are open to visitors. A single ticket costs €15.
The Chinese Pavilion in the park is closed until 2027.
The palace stands at the northern edge of Gamla Stan. The nearest metro station is Gamla Stan, and the hop-on hop-off bus and boat both stop at the Royal Palace.
A morning in Gamla Stan with the Royal Palace, the Nobel Prize Museum, Stockholm Cathedral and the Under the Bridges boat tour costs about €80 in single tickets, close to the 1-day pass at €84. Add Drottningholm with the boat on a second day and the pass wins clearly. If you only want the palace, buy a single ticket. The pass calculator checks your own plan.

65+ attractions for 1 to 5 days, from €84. Worth it from three paid sights a day.
