Skansen keeps long hours in summer and short ones in winter, so check the day you plan to go:
The Christmas market runs on weekends from 27 November to 20 December 2026: Fridays and Saturdays 10:00 to 17:00, Sundays 10:00 to 16:00.
Skansen spreads over a hill on Djurgården. You walk between historic houses and farmsteads that were moved here from across Sweden. The zoo focuses on wild Nordic animals, with Arctic foxes and forest reindeer, plus traditional Swedish farm animals and seal talks. Lill-Skansen is the children's zoo.
The funicular Bergbanan, built for the 1897 Stockholm Exhibition, runs from the Hazelius entrance up the hill in season; it was not running in early October 2026. The site is large and steep in places, so wear comfortable shoes and leave plenty of time.
The main entrance is at Djurgårdsslätten 49. Step-free and taxi access is through the Solliden entrance.
Skansen alone does not justify a pass. Combined with the Vasa Museum, the Viking Museum and a boat tour on the same day it does: those four cost about €89 as single tickets, the 1-day pass €84. Families should check first, because children up to 15 enter Skansen free and under-18s enter the Vasa Museum free. The pass calculator does the sum for your plan.
